Back in 1945, Superman had a role to play in making the new year bright as seen in this special U.S. Navy edition of Action Comics. 1945 didn't start off so well for the Man of Steel. A story arc from Superman in September 1944 brought Mister Mxyztplk to Action Comics in January, 1945.

The mischievous Mister Mxyztplk always wreaked havoc on the lives of Superman and Clark and the real trick was to get rid of him ... he had to say his own name backwards. Now there's a mouthful.
